Good Bye Xiamen, Hello Hong Kong

(11 Jan 2011)

Headed over to Hong Kong from Xiamen. Bad experience and we almost couldn’t get out of Xiamen.. All because of excess baggage.. Had excess baggage of 18kg!!!! And when Xiamen Airlines say 20kg Max, they really mean it, not even a single kg more was allowed. But we were fine with it since we were willing to pay, but the process of paying made us almost missed our flight.. We were only allowed to check in 1.5 hours before our flight, and since that gate closes 15 mins before departure, you could say that we had approximately 1 hour to check in etc.. When we wanted to pay the fine, they didn’t accept any other currencies or credit cards, and since we didn’t have much RMB with us, we were told to go to the money changer to get our money change.. And WTF!! It was closed when it was supposed to be open.. When back to the airline office and told them it wasn’t open, the staff-in-charge had dissappeared.. When she came back, she didn’t want to believe us that the money changer was closed and asked us to go back out and check and wait!! After waiting for 20 mins, the darn money changer opened but that stupid staff disappeared AGAIN and when we asked other staff, all they know was “Don’t know”.. *faints* That was one bad experience… And one lesson learnt : “NEVER have excess baggage when flying domestic flights…”

Had a one hour flight over to Hong Kong from Xiamen.. Stayed at Kimberly Hotel which was an awesome hotel which was situated in the heart of Tsim Sha Tsui, with just a few min walk away from Avenue of Stars, Jordan Road, etc.. And most importantly, shopping all around!! *heaven*

(Xiamen Trip) Day 4 之 Tu Lou

(6 Jan 2011)

Took a 2 hour drive to Fu Jian’s Tu Lou. It’s a type of olden housing, or rather a community, where everyone stays together in that house/cluster, and this cluster has only one entrance to it. These houses/cluster are normally made up of materials that can be found easily instead of using bricks, cement, etc.

(Xiamen Trip) Day 2 之 Xiamen’s Local Market

(4 Jan 2011)

After what I considered as a stroll in the park, we finally reached their local market. It’s totally different from Singapore’s market. Some people just set up their stalls along the alleys, while there are also real stalls (just like Singapore) somewhere towards the end of the street. One of the most interesting or rather “shocking” stall would be the poultry stall. They sell live chickens/ducks,etc, and if you wanna buy one, they’ll kill it on the spot and pluck out the feathers, clean them etc.. Oh man, I can’t bear to buy one and see what the process is like..

(Xiamen Trip) Day 2 之 On the way to the local market

(4 Jan 2011)

First stop of the day was to go to the market to do some grocery shopping since the fridge or rather the house was empty.. 😛 The market is about a 15 mins walk away from home. We had to pass by a sea/reservoir/park(??) to get to the market. And the view in the morning was awesome. With the cooling weather, a stroll in the park was a great start to the morning.
